Individual Teaching Philosophy

I intend to form a learning environment that enables all students to experience success and have a positive attitude towards their education. In ties with a supportive school community I will support the development of the whole child, spiritually, emotionally, socially, morally, physically and academically.

By creating an inclusive environment students in my classroom will feel respected and valued. The student’s individuality will be nurtured and developed in a supportive environment where diversity is embraced, respected and understood as a part of our society. The environment will ensure all students, including students with a (dis)ability can be educated together and learn from one another.

My aim is to implement a student-centered curriculum to ensure that each child is actively engaged while striving to meet learning outcomes. By involving students in the planning of what and how to learn I believe I will encourage the child to make positive decisions that will influence their learning. The interests of the student will drive the curriculum making it personalised and meaningful for each individual. I must be confident in my ability to plan spontaneously, creating innovative programs that address the interests of the children. It is my role as the educator to recognize and actively support the skills and talents of every child. By thoroughly observing the students I will identify strengths and weaknesses amongst the group that will inform the level of scaffolding I provide for the individual.

In order to support the development of the whole child I believe it is essential that as the educator I work collaboratively with the families of the students. By working collaboratively with the families I can seek additional information including their expectations of their child and myself as the educator or issues that may be impacting on the wellbeing or development of the student. Relationships should be built on mutual respect and trust between the educator and parents who respect rights their right to confidentiality. Both positive and negative information should be shared sensitively with the parents regarding their child. By sharing additional information regarding the child, together we can better support the social and more specifically the emotional development of the child.

I strongly believe in developing children beyond the classroom. This will enable the child to feel capable and independent in their everyday life allowing the child to become an active and effective citizen. Through their learning experiences the students will develop skills including problem solving, teamwork and decision making.  My aim is to ensure that the student feels confident and capable of contributing their skills and knowledge, in the classroom, in the school environment and in the local community.

I believe it is vital that every child is given the opportunity to achieve. My philosophy statement therefore focuses on the child, their interests and their needs.  In order to successfully support the child as an individual a range of factors including student-centered learning, inclusive learning, collaborative relationships and the environment must be considered.
